About Web Hosting

Web hosting is a service that provides, at a minimum, storage space on a server (a specialized computer and there are MANY making up the Internet) and bandwidth which allows the data (Web pages, images, etc.) stored on the server to be transferred to the browsers of those viewing the data.

Web hosting is a service allowing your Web site to be connected to the Internet at VERY high speeds via our servers.

Hosting on The Great E-scape® Web servers includes the following services:

  • Storage space · The physical disk space on a server where your Web site data (pages, images, scripts, e-mails etc.) is stored
  • Bandwidth · The Internet traffic and the networking infrastructure needed to deliver your electronic data files to visitors to your Web site.
  • E-mail POP3 Accounts · E-mail boxes where you can send and receive e-mail.
  • Technical Support · A staff of support technicians to help you with general service usage issues and other problems as they arise.
  • Scripting support · The ability to run scripts (small programs that perform certain tasks) on the server
  • Backup Services · A service that makes a copy of your Web site data in case of accidental deletion or other emergency situation

As a Web host, The Great E-scape® has found that clients often prefer to place many services widely available across the Web with us. That way, they know that if it has to do with their Web site, we are the folks to contact. As a result, The Great E-scape® offers every service needed to have a Web site up and running worldwide at a reasonable price. The Great E-scape® is One-Stop Web Site Shopping on the World Wide Web.

In addition to Web hosting, The Great E-scape® also offers the following services:

Domain Name Registration

Since you have made it here to our site, you're familiar, at least in principle, with domain names. A domain name is the text you type into your browser's address bar to access a Web site. It is a unique name that identifies the site (i.e. TheGreatE-scape.com or www.thegreate-scape.com).

The "TheGreatE-scape" portion of the domain can be anything at all as long as it's a string of alphanumeric characters with or without a dash. The '.com' portion of the above example is called the TLD or top level domain. The TLD can denote a location or country (TheGreatE-scape.de would normally be a site in Denmark) or an association (.edu is used for universities and colleges in the US).

You will need a domain name so that your site is easily accessible on the Internet. Domain names must be registered in order to be used. Many web hosts (including THE GREAT E-SCAPE®) provide domain registration services that allow you to secure your domain name.
