Changing Your Password

One of the best things you can do in regards to securing your hosting account is to regularly change the password for your account. When you receive your "Welcome to TheGreatE-scape" letter, it is always a good idea to go ahead and log into your account and change the password. This way, should someone come across your welcome letter, the login information listed in the welcome letter would not be valid. However, changing your password also raises some responsibilities. You need to be sure that you change your password to a good password and not something that is easy to guess.

Log into your account's control panel by going to:
http://yourdomain.com/cpanel
or
http://youripaddress/cpanel

This information should be in your Welcome to The Great E-scape" letter when you sign up for a hosting package.

Click on the Change Password link. You will be taken the Change Password page.

Here you will see three textboxes, Old Password, New Password, New Password (again).

The Old Password textbox is referring to your current password, the password that you logged into the control panel with. The New Password and New Password (again) textboxes should contain the same password. This is used to define your new password and to confirm your new password.

For the best password, you should check the strength of your desired password. Microsoft has a great utility on their website for handling this. Go to the link, http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/privacy/password_checker.mspx external link icon and test the password strength for your desired password.

You want a password that will score at least a Strong on their password strength meter.

Once you have a Strong password, simply enter that password into the textboxes beside New Password and then enter the password again in the textbox beside New Password (again) to confirm the password. Click on the Change your password now! button. If the attempt was successful you will see a page saying something like: Password Change Successful.

When you try to access another part of your control panel you will be prompted to enter your username and password again. Your username will remain the same, but your password will be the new password. If forget your account's password, we can reset your password to a new password, but we will not retrieve your current password.

To request that we reset your password to the original password, submit a support request ticket with your domain name and the last four digits of the credit card number used to pay for the account. The last four digits of your credit card is necessary to verify that you are who you say you are and that you are the correct account owner for the account.
