Mail Manager

You can access your Mail Manager by going to your Control Panel: http://www.yourdomain.com/cpanel. When prompted enter your username and password.

Once the Control Panel is open, click on "Mail" and this will open the "Mail Manager Main Menu."

Inside this area you can setup all of your e-mail items--auto-responders, aliases and pop accounts. Every single e-mail item available to your account is automated by your Control Panel. So, there is no need to contact the technical support to setup any of your POP3 accounts, aliases, lists, or auto-responders. Simply check out the "Mail" section of your cpanel and the various options within. It's very user friendly.

Setting up a POP3 Account

Initially you will see a mailbox that is named default. DO NOT DELETE this e-mail account as it is the one the system recognizes as your default e-mail box. For more on this see below.

To create a new POP3 e-mail account, click on New Address. You will be taken to another window where you will be asked for a username and password for the new e-mail address.
Username: sales
Password: Midas
Re-enter Password: Midas
Click on add. You have now created an e-mail address sales@yourdomain.com and the password is "Midas". Simple, wasn't it?

Add Account

This is where you may add additional e-mail accounts for your domain name. All domain names in your account are present here and can be used to setup e-mail accounts.

Default Address

The default e-mail address is used to receive all e-mail that is sent to a nonexistent e-mail account for your domain. For example if someone sent an e-mail to sales@yourdomain.com and in reality used sale@yourdomain.com, forgetting the "s" on "sales," that e-mail would be sent to the default e-mail address. This is useful as no e-mail can be lost using this. However, with spammers doing everything they can to get their unsolicited messages to every possible person, most folks choose to have their default e-mail address send everything to :fail:

Autoresponders

Autoresponders are setup to automatically respond to an e-mail that has been sent to that e-mail address. Autoresponders are very useful for people who are not going to be able to answer their e-mails in their usual manner. The message the autoresponder sends must be specified.

Forwarders

Forwarders are used to direct an e-mail address to another e-mail address or location on the same server. This is useful for sending old e-mail accounts to a new e-mail address. Forwarders are very easy to setup, just a few simple steps. For information on why e-mails will NOT forward off the server please see our article on forwarders in this knowledgebase.

To delete an account simply click on "Delete" and confirm account deletion.

For information on this please see.

The aging section is used to determine when the server should delete e-mail that has already been read. If a user opts to leave their messages on a server and not allow their e-mail client to delete them, they will build up over time and consume a large amount of disk space.

This allows you to decide how much disk space to allocate to each e-mail account. This is optional as the default is 10MB.

Users can use this option to change a password used for each account. The old password is needed in order to complete the process.

This setting is used to automatically configure Outlook or Outlook Express to work with the corresponding e-mail address. This is a “quick” configuration meaning it will not assign custom names or settings within Outlook. In truth, it doesn't work very well and you would be far better off using your time to work through our tutorials for setting up most mail clients, including Outlook and Outlook Express.

Mailing Lists

Mailing Lists and SmartLists are dealt with separately. Please read the appropriate articles in this knowledgebase.

Trace an E-mail Address

Tracing an e-mail address is similar to running a trace route on a user’s computer. It will basically map out the paths that an e-mail takes to get to the server. This information can be useful in finding out where an e-mail be getting lost. This information is also very interesting as it will show the complete path from the server to the e-mail address.

IMPORTANT Things for You to Know

  • Remember to ALWAYS use mail.yourdomain.com as the incoming (POP3) mail server.
  • ALWAYS use your ISP's outgoing (SMTP) server in your local e-mail client as your outgoing (SMTP) mail server.
  • The forwarding function is to be used to alias one account to another inside your domain name. If you want mike@yourdomain.com to arrive in POP3 account sales@yourdomain.com, use a forward to set this up.
  • WARNING -- e-mail will NOT forward off of the server. Therefore, you CANNOT forward sales@yourdomain.com to youraccount@somewhereelse.net. It won't happen. ISPs are preventing this from working in order to put a stop to SPAM. For more information on this please see the article on forwarders in this knowledgebase.
  • Any POP3 accounts you setup will use that e-mail address (all in lower case) as the username when you are logging in. For sales@yourdomain.com the username at login is sales@yourdomain.com.
  • If you forget the exact login of one of your POP3 accounts, simply access your control panel at http://www.yourdomain.com/cpanel and check the list of POP3 accounts you have created.
  • Your default address is the root catch-all mailbox. It receives messages heading to all addresses which aren't setup as unique pop accounts within your domain. Keep in mind that the default address account does NOT have a prefix, like other pop accounts. The login for your default address is the same as the main FTP login for your account.
  • If it seems that you cannot access a POP3 account to retrieve messages and you checked the actual POP3 account address, then the problem is with the password. The quickest way to solve this for yourself is to change the password from your cpanel. The changes you make to your e-mail items with your /cpanel are done in real time.
  • The POP3 e-mail functionality for your domain won't be operational until your domain name is resolving to our nameservers.

E-mail Trouble

If you are having problems related to receiving or sending e-mail messages at your domain, this section is for you. Check through the headers below for help on the exact situation you are experiencing. Also, please be sure that your domain is registered and resolving to our nameservers before you start using the e-mail services.

Can't Send Mail

Our SMTP servers are configured as secure relays. This means that you cannot simply reference mail.yourdomain.com as an Outgoing mailserver. MAKE SURE your Outgoing SMTP mail server is the Outgoing SMTP mail server for your ISP (Internet Service Provider--i.e. AOL. Comcast, Earthlink, Qwest etc.)

An IMPORTANT pont here is this: the SMTP relay you use to send out your messages has absolutely no bearing on the address your recipient sees as the sender. You can configure your e-mail client to send from the address sales@yourdomain.com even when your outgoing (SMTP) mail server is set as mail27.prodigy.net - your recipient will still see the message as being sent from sales@yourdomain.com regardless of the SMTP server you use to send it. For more on this refer to the articles on e-mail clients in this knowledgebase.

Your Default Root E-mail Account

Every account starts out with a default catch-all account for its domain. This e-mail box will grab all mail addressed in any fashion to yourdomain.com. The login for this box is simply the same main account login you received in your "Welcome to The Great E-scape" e-mail- first 8 letters of your domain and the password provided. In addition, there is no need to request an alias to your root account, because all names under your domain already are filtered into this account.

Please remember that POP3 accounts logins will use the e-mail address as the username at login. The mail control panel of your account keeps this information for you, so please check there to correct any login problems.

Any Username And Password Error

The main cause for this is trying to access the e-mail account with the wrong user / password. Remember you will use the e-mail address all lower case as the username. If that isn't working the try changing the password to that e-mail address from your control panel. And then try logging in again with the new password.

If none of this helps, then most likely the POP3 box in question has a received a corrupted message. Contact our technical support and ask them to clear that box out. There is no charge for this but it will result in most or all of that particular POP3 account's contents being erased.

Problems Resolving Your Mailhost

If you find that you can't get mail.yourdomain.com to resolve as a POP3 mail server, please be sure that your domain name registration lists our nameservers. Also, try clearing out the cache and cookies in your browser and then restarting your computer.
